About the artist:
Hieronymus Bosch was the forerunner of surrealism, famous for his fantastic images in a hostile world full of mysticism from the middle ages.
Often considered to be a self-portrait by Bosch, the Treeman's egg-shaped torso rests on a pair of tree trunks that end in boats for shoes. Eggs form a large part of symbolism in Bosch's work, indicating both, the birth of new things, and entrapment.
